Pempek is not only tasty but also has a number of health benefits. Since it is made of fish, this Palembangese local dish contains a lot of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, both of which are indispensable for heart and brain health.

INGREDIENTS:

  • White fish fillet, finely ground or minced: 100 g
  • Grated daikon radish: 1/2 no.
  • Carrot: 1 no.
  • Salt: 1/2 tsp
  • Ground white pepper: 1/4 tsp
  • Garlic powder: 1/4 tsp
  • Ground coriander: 1/4 tsp
  • Ground turmeric: 1/4 tsp
  • Ground ginger: 1/4 tsp
  • Chili powder (optional): 1/4 tsp
  • Vegetable oil (for frying): 1 tsp
  • Soy sauce or chili sauce for serving (optional)

DIRECTIONS:
Step 1 In a mixing bowl, combine the finely ground or minced fish fillet, grated daikon radish, grated carrot, salt, ground white pepper, garlic powder, ground coriander, ground turmeric, ground ginger, and chili powder (if using). Mix well until everything is evenly combined. Step 2 Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape each portion into small patties or logs. Step 3 Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Step 4 Place the shaped fish mixture patties or logs in the skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cooked through. Step 5 Remove from the skillet and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Step 6 Serve the Pempek hot with soy sauce or chili sauce for dipping (optional).
